SECURITY
More Secure than a Bank.
At every level of our infrastructure, we’ve worked to become the gold standard in data security.
As engineers, we built something we would feel secure using ourselves.
Secure File Management
Military-Grade Encryption Protocols
An envelope in the draw can be found. A hard drive can corrupt.
With BePrepared, perhaps for the first time – you’re secure.
SSL Encryption
All data sent from your computer is encrypted before leaving (in transit).
Unique User Keys
Each user has a unique key that is used to encrypt only their data.
Application Encryption
All data is encrypted again by the applications unique key before being saved.
Database Encryption
Once the encrypted data is stored, the database itself is automatically encrypted (at rest).
How Does It Work?
No more envelopes.
No More Spreadsheets.
For years people have people written all their secrets and passwords down, put them in an envelope and simply stuck them in the sock draw – Or perhaps they paid for a lockbox at a bank, and made the laborious trip there every 3 years.
The problem is that others could stumble upon them, or it was too difficult to update the information.
BePrepared is safer, cheaper, more secure, and easier to up date.
- All data is triple-encrypted, meaning nobody but you can see it - not even us!
- An easy-to-use app means updating constantly changing passwords or files is simple.
- Automatic distribution of your items means so there's no chance of important documents being lost or never found.
HOW IT WORKS
Protecting Your Valuable Files and Messages In 3 Easy Steps
1
Encrypt all your data with your own unique key.
Each user has their own unique key created when they sign up – and this is used to encrypt their data. Only this key can read or write data for this user.
2
Encrypt your data again with an application level key.
Once the data enters your account, it is then encrypted again with our BePrepared encryption key. This means one would now need both a user key and application key to read your data.
3
Encrypt the stored data again with a database key.
Once this encrypted data is stored, we encrypt it a third time using a database key. This effectively puts the key to the lockbox – inside the lockbox.
It takes less than 60 seconds to take

SAFE, SECURE AND PROTECTED
Helping You Protect Yourself.
At a certain point, cyber security boils down to individuals also embracing safe practices. While a lot of businesses make these optional – we do not.
We enforce Two Factor Authentication (which means merely having your username and password is not enough to gain access to your account), and routinely check your data against historic 3rd party data breaches and hacks.
We don’t force you to change your password every 6 months, but we do ask you to verify each time a new device is used to log in to your account.

QUESTIONS WE GET ASKED A LOT
Frequently Asked Questions
Are you as secure as a bank?
We’re better.
While designing BePrepared, we thought about security at every turn, and during this time it became apparent that banks aren’t the gold standard for digital security that we all expect.
Banks don’t care about people seeing how much money you have – they care more about someone moving that money.
By contrast, we care most about making sure no one can see or access your personal information. So we built our app from ground up to prevent this.
How will you know that I've passed away?
When you create your BePrepared account, you will be prompted to select ‘confidants’ – close contacts you trust implicitly such as your lawyer, spouse, close family members or friends.
When you add these people to your account, they will be notified of their official status as a BePrepared confidant in the event of your death.
These confidants are therefore aware of their responsibility to contact BePrepared in order to access your digital records when necessary.
Once we have been contacted, we perform numerous checks to determine the validity of your passing. We try get in contact with you first, and if we are unable, we then also contact all of your other confidants. Once everyone unanimously agrees on your passing, your data is released.
Alternatively, if you have not logged in for a set period of time (usually six months), BePrepared will attempt to contact you, before messaging your confidants or lawyer.
What happens if someone hacks my account?
In order for someone to gain access to your account, they need not only your username and password, but also the device you use to perform your two factor authentication.
In the event they somehow obtain both of these items, our system will automatically detect the hackers unfamiliar device and prompt another authentication check with you to make sure that it is you on a different access point.
What type of information is safe to store on BePrepared?
BePrepared is safe to store practically any form of data. This includes, but is not limited to, photos, videos, contracts, important documents, medical records, pet records, contact information, messages, passwords and logins.
My lawyer referred me to you, can he manage my account for me?
Yes, your lawyer can help you maintain and manage your BePrepared account. If they are unsure how to do this, place get them to send us an email at hello@prepared.ly – however please note, your lawyer may decide to charge you for the time it takes for them to administer your account.
